In 2020, while I was campaigning against deforestation in the UK, a similar campaign was formed on the other side of the world on Vancouver Island, Canada. The movement against old growth logging, soon became the largest direct action movement in Canadian history, seeing people from across the country coming together to defend the last remaining 5% of old growth forests. From our woodland occupations here in the UK, I watched as similar images to mine began emerging from Canada. What followed was a powerful show of solidarity and building of connections, between groups in both places. In 2023 I had the opportunity to travel to Canada in order to witness and document first hand the work being done to preserve their forests, much like our own. The resulting documentary project explores the significance of reaffirming our place in, and connection to, nature especially in the Global North. And in defending our world at a time of such urgent ecological crisis.
