Named after the Yiddish principle meaning ‘hereness’, first adopted by the Jewish Labour Bund in the late 19th Century; Doikayt delves into current alternative, leftist and anti-Zionist Jewish communities and spaces in the UK (and one day Europe). From protests to prayer, community events to study groups, rituals to food growing and making; the project explores the current reality for Jews navigating life, away from the notion of collective identity tied to a nation state. Envisioning alternative realities and futures for Jews everywhere in the world, rooted in diaspora. intersectionality and international solidarity. At this moment, when a genocide is being enacted in the name of the Jewish people; resisting complicity, reclaiming our histories and culture and re-rooting ourselves in alternatives is essential. Navigating crucial, yet controversial and often avoided topics, the project gives platform to discussions and voices that are paving the way for a new form of Judaism. For the sake of all humanity and in the name of justice and liberation for all.
